About 20 minutes south of Tulum, we have the opportunity to enjoy an incredible bird diversity, learn about the current Maya culture and the ancient Maya civilization as we walk and look for birds in the village and archaeological site of Muyil.

We explore different habitats in the village with different types of vegetation: mature semi-deciduous jungle in the archaeological site of Muyil and some freshwater wetlands as we walk through the flooded jungle using a boardwalk until we reach a freshwater lagoon.

On this tour, it is possible to identify from 40 to 80 species of birds (depending on the time of the year).

Depending on the availability of boats, there is also the possibility to add a boat trip across two lagoons and a lazy river floating experience to this tour. We float in a truly unique setting, listening to the sounds of nature, among mangroves, orchids & bromeliads. A calming experience like nothing you have experienced before.

Itinerary

We will start his tour taking a walk through the village of Muyil in the search for birds whilst witnessing local Mayan everyday life. Muyil village, situated half and hour from Tulum, provides an excellent opportunity to observe a wide variety of birds and ecosystems.

We continue the tour in the Muyil Archaeological Site. Learn about the many species that can be found in this beautiful archaeological site and learn about the history of this old trading post.

We walk through an ecological board walk though the initial ecosystems of the Sian Ka´an Reserve, giving you another great birdwatching opportunity. We explore a variety of habitats with different types of vegetation: secondary vegetation and some fresh water wetlands as we walk through flooded jungle until we reach a fresh water lagoon. After the tour we will make our way back to Tulum for half an hour.
