It’s around 1 hour driving until Ancient Corinth. Just before our arrival there, we will make a small stop at Corinth canal. Right there is the entrance to the Peloponnese and the view from there is magnificent. It is an artificial canal that separates the Peloponnese from Attica and allows ships to cross the Aegean Sea. It was built in 1890, but the plans for its completion already existed from 5th century BC.

At Corinth we will visit the archaeological site and the museum and among other things we will see the hill and the temple of Apollo. Here are also the places where the Apostle Paul taught. Ancient Corinth has been one of the most important and powerful ancient cities of Greece, which has been inhabited since the Neolithic years (6500-3250 BC). The city flourished for many centuries until the Corinthians finally accepted Athenian rule. It was finally destroyed by the Roman invaders in 146 BC, but Julius Caesar decided to re-establish the city in 44 BC, because he considered it of strategic importance. All the conquerors of Greece passed through here and have left their traces: Byzantines, Franks, St John knights of Rhodes, Venetians and finally the Turks. It is therefore obvious that this is an extremely historic place, which is definitely worth a visit.

Nearby is the castle of Corinth, which we will visit. The first fortifications existed here, already from the 7th century BC and were very important even after the middle Ages. Many well-known ancient myths took place here. The castle of Corinth, the battles and the sieges that took place here and the myths that surround it are also very interesting. Inside the castle there is the spring from where the Mythical Pegasus drank water and Hercules was purified.

Our next visit is at Cechries. The port from where St. Paul began his journey to Ephesus and his tours for the spread of Christianity. We will see here the temples of Artemis & Isis, but also early Christian temples. On the beautiful beach we will see the ruins of the opposite piers of the port and the sunken ruins of the port buildings. Here we will enjoy the sun, the sea, we will swim in the crystal clear waters and we will have our meal, in a traditional tavern. (*) Return to Athens around 17:00. During the winter months, when the weather does not allow swimming, we visit the Rock of Mars (Arios Pagos) in Athens. This is the place where St. Paul spoke to the pagan Athenians about Christ. This is one of the most important monuments of Athens, with wonderful view to the city. Here were the supreme court of the Athenians and the residences of the Neo-Platonism philosophers. Here, according to the myths, Orestes was tried and the “Erinies” (qualms) were worshiped.
